Historic church for sale in beautiful rural location

House hunters looking for an unusual property could help secure the future when an historic Leicestershire church comes up for sale. St Peter’s Church in Saxby near Melton Mowbray comes with full planning consent for conversion to a two bedroom residence.

The Grade II* listed church was built in 1789 and was designed by renowned architect George Richardson who also designed numerous churches in the wake of the Great Fire of London. The church was restored in 1980 and has a range of ecclesiastical features still intact, including a nave, spire and chancel as well as brass memorials and several 19th century stained glass windows.

The sale, which is by informal tender, is being handled on behalf of  the Diocesan Board by Leicestershire based estate agency Andrew Granger & Co who have spent the past 18 months successfully negotiating planning permission for the listed building.

“This has the potential to be an absolutely stunning property, situated in a beautiful, rural location,” comments Elizabeth Watson, surveyor of  Andrew Granger & Co. “It’s extremely rare to see this type of property come on the market with planning permission - and even rarer to obtain consent for conversion of a Grade II* listed building.  We are delighted to be acting as agents for such a handsome and historic property.”

The church became redundant in 2006 and has an internal floor space of 129 square metres. The churchyard itself will remain open for burials and public visits. The property is currently under offer.
