A day in the life of Amy Taylor, PR and Marketing Manager at Andrew Granger & Co

Thu 1 July 2021

This month we’re introducing you to Amy who tells us all about her role as the PR and marketing manager at Andrew Granger & Co, and why life is never dull at home…

What made you chose this industry and area of work?

My career was certainly never planned but has naturally evolved and I’m a strong believer in things happening for a reason. I started out in retail management after gaining a Diploma in Retail Display and Design, and 4 years later I applied for a job in residential property lettings (with Andrew Granger & Co in Market Harborough, funnily enough!) at a point when I was simply ready to try something new. Another 4 years down the line and I was looking for a more Monday-Friday based job and it was a recruitment agency that suggested my personality and skills would be ideal for pr and marketing. It’s now 14 years later and I’m still working in pr and marketing and I haven’t looked back. Rather ironically the majority of clients I worked for over the years were housebuilders. I had always kept in touch with the letting’s director at Andrew Granger & Co, Jill Griffiths, and happened to mention that I was looking for a new job at a time when unbeknown to me they were considering recruiting an in-house member of staff for their pr and marketing needs. It’s been over two years since I returned to the company, but in a very different role. It’s very strange how things work out at times and I’m very happy to be back - it was clearly meant to be!

How does your working day start?

I like to get out early for a walk or run every other day before the rest of the family is up. I find it really sets me up for the day and as a Mum, it’s important to grab even just a few minutes completely to myself. Then it’s on to getting my two daughters ready and to school, and our animals fed before I start work at 9am. My role has been based from home since March 2020 and I’m very grateful this has been possible. I hope to get out to see all the offices regularly again soon, which will be great.

What can a typical day involve for you?

I’m always looking and planning ahead as we have a certain amount of social media posts and blogs that we ideally like to post each month. So, I can be drafting a social media post, selecting images to use, having a meeting with a certain team within the firm, briefing and co-ordinating marketing items with our graphic designer, drafting a blog, press release or newsletter – a real mix and every day is different.

What do you like most about your job?

I do love property. And I think you really must have a genuine love for it to work in this industry. I also really enjoy the variety of projects I get involved with. I’m very lucky to work with a great team of people across all of the offices who really care about what they do, and there’s always something interesting going on to talk about. Finally, seeing the difference the hard work makes to the companies’ brand awareness.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

Keeping three offices and nine departments happy in part-time hours, I’d say. I can feel pulled in several directions at times, and keeping a to-do list and various spreadsheets certainly helps me keep on top of it. That said, I’m probably the one that puts the most pressure on myself and at 43, I’m still learning how to be better at not doing that!

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

Simple pleasures really – I’m happiest at home or out and about in the countryside with my family and friends. I love food, cooking and the odd glass or wine or two! I also love home interiors and keeping my eye out for vintage finds for our home. My husband, daughters and I are total softies when it comes to animals in need and have over the years rescued a dog, five cats, five chickens, and two guinea fowl to add to our other 12 chickens and two ducks. They certainly make life interesting at home, have taught us a lot and we wouldn’t be without them.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

I can be a night owl at times as I seem to get a second wind especially once the girls are in bed but I’m probably more of an early bird. I love to get up and make the most of the day.
