In our most recent ‘A day in the life of’ we’d like to use the opportunity to introduce you to Nigel Weller who joined the Market Harborough sales team this year as a valuer. Given that no one expected how busy we’d be following the first Covid19 lockdown Nigel has done amazingly slotting into the team perfectly and taking it all in his stride.
What made you chose this industry and area of work?
I really liked the idea of helping people make their largest purchase and biggest decision, so after being in a sales environment since leaving school, in 1988/89 I made the change to estate agency. However, it was very challenging times, there was a market crash and people were struggling to sell their homes. I soon got to grips with the industry and after working in the city for 12 months I moved out to the suburbs and then into the country homes market and haven’t looked back.
How does your working day start?
My day starts with preparing for my days valuations by gathering comparable evidence, then into a team’s meeting with my director and work colleagues, where we discuss the previous days business and the day ahead.
What can a typical day involve for you?
Every day is different which is great and at times really exciting. One of the enjoyable things working with Andrew Granger & Co is the diverse portfolio of property, covering some of Leicestershire’s and Northamptonshire’s best countryside along with properties in an around Market Harborough. I can be in a one-bedroom property one minute and then a six-bedroom country home the next. My daily tasks involve talking with existing clients, negotiating, organising the property photography and other professional services, and preparing the property details ready for marketing.
What do you like most about your job?
I love working with a great team of people, meeting new people, and ultimately helping our clients to achieve their goals. It is really rewarding when you see their property sale complete and their new life journey begin knowing that you have played some part in that process.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
I don’t really find anything challenging about my role as I enjoy it so much, the worst thing I guess is currently wearing a face mask!
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with family and our two dogs. I’m really keen on health and fitness and travel. I would love one day to visit the Devils Marbles in Australia and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Definitely an early bird! I spent seven years waking up at 3:40 am, four days a week to take my daughters swimming. I find early mornings are very productive and it sets the tone for the rest of your day.
