A day in the life of Andrew Peacock, senior lettings administrator at Andrew Granger & Co in Market Harborough

Mon 13 September 2021

There’s a huge amount that goes on behind the scenes within property lettings as Andrew Peacock, senior lettings administrator at our Market Harborough office gives us an insight into when we introduce him in our latest ‘a day in the life of’.

And it’s clear to see why Andrew is such a valued member of the team.

What made you chose this industry and area of work?

The industry chose me really. I graduated from Lancaster University with a Masters Degree in history and moved back to Lincolnshire where I took a full time role with a successful estate agency. I worked in the Lettings Department primarily doing property inspections before moving to Leicestershire for family reasons. At Andrew Granger & Co I have found the role that suits my skill set perfectly and the company ethos is an excellent match for my personality.

How does your working day start?

I will typically start my working day by reading the latest industry news, checking my emails and consulting my spreadsheets. A lot of my tasks need to be scheduled days, weeks and months in advance so I always like to get my diary in order at the start of each day.

What can a typical day involve for you?

A typical day can involve a variety of tasks. I always orientate my day around my schedule of tenancies that are due for renewal and new tenancies that are due to start, ensuring the tenancy paperwork is all in order and fit in my other day to day tasks around this. My normal activities involve running data reports on our lettings software programme, addressing tenancy queries with our landlords and tenants and providing assistance to our Lettings Director, Jill Griffiths. My role also involves providing advice and support to our Leicester and Loughborough lettings departments and most weeks an industry course or webinar will be available for me to attend which enables me to help keep colleagues up to date with the latest industry developments.

What do you like most about your job?

I work with a great group of colleagues who are a pleasure to work with. I enjoy the level of responsibility associated with my job and my role in giving advice to colleagues and clients. The evolving nature of the private rented sector means that property agents must always strive to the best standards to ensure that our clients and their properties are well looked after. During my career in lettings I have performed nearly all roles from viewings to inventories but I much prefer the desk based job I have now which provides me with the opportunity to use my skills to their best effect.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

The constantly changing environment that encompasses the lettings industry is always a challenge. Legislation affecting landlords and property agents is always expanding and evolving and keeping on top of all the latest developments requires a lot of hard work and attention to detail.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I enjoy spending time with my wife. She is the reason I moved to Leicestershire and approached Andrew Granger & Co after all! I also read a lot. I like to keep up to date with current affairs and I find this helps me to stay up to date with industry news and wider issues affecting the property sector. I also read for pleasure. Wolf Hall and it’s sequel by Hilary Mantel are probably my favourite books. I am yet to read the third and final book of the trilogy.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

An early bird most of the time. It usually helps to address the most challenging tasks at the start of the day.
