A day in the life of Lettings Negotiator, Jade.

Thu 2 March 2023

In our latest ‘a day in the life of’ we catch up with Jade Kerrison, Lettings Negotiator from the Market Harborough lettings team and discover how her skill set from a previous job role transferred perfectly when she decided to change careers.

What made you chose this industry and area of work?

I have always fancied working at an estate agency but never had the courage to apply. When a friend said there was a position available as part of a lettings team at a property company that she worked for, and that she thought I would be a good fit for the role and team, I thought I have nothing to lose in applying. I am a customer focused individual and always try to give the best level of service that I can and decided that this could be the best place to apply all my skills to.

My previous role was as a senior sales assistant in a travel firm. I learnt a lot from that job that I apply to this role such as my relationship building, customer service skills, telephone manner, computer skills, and so much more.

How does your working day start?

It always starts with a cup of tea and a catch up with the rest of the lettings team. When we’re not working together, we’re messaging each other in a group chat. We’re a very close team which is lovely.

What can a typical day involve for you?

I know it may sound a bit cliché, but no day is the same in lettings, one day I can be out all-day completing viewings and another I can be in the office arranging viewings, preparing properties to launch, or preparing a new tenancy and tenant referencing. I really enjoy the variety the job offers and that there is a mix of being in the office and going out to properties.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the team we have and how well we get on. My favourite part of the job is conducting viewings, meeting the potential new tenants, and establishing a relationship from the early stages of their enquiry.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

The most challenging part of the job is when we must decline an application and delivering the bad news, and when this news isn’t received well.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I have a real passion for travelling and exploring new places with my partner, as well as trying new restaurants and foods, and spending time with family and friends.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Definitely a night owl! I am not a morning person. If I am out with friends or at a party, I am usually one of the last ones standing!!
