In our most recent ‘a day in the life of’ we spend time with Andrew Granger & Co’s Leicester estate agency team, based at Stoughton Grange in Oadby.
How many members of staff form the Leicester sales team?
Four, which consists of Mark, Leigh, Tabitha and our viewing and sales assistant, Faye.
Collectively how many years’ experience in the industry do you have as a team?
We’re not quite sure where the years have gone, but 45 years between us. Mark – 22 years, Leigh – 17 years, Tabitha – 6 years, and Faye took the plunge into property this year.
How does your day start?
With a morning meeting – shared over either a coffee or glass of water. We discuss what the diary holds for us all, and any updates on properties that the rest of the team need to be aware of. Then we tackle the overnight emails and phone messages, and get on with our day…
What can a typical day involve for you all?
A typical day involves arranging and carrying out viewings, chasing feedback on viewings to pass on to the property owner, preparing for and carrying out valuations, negotiating sales and sales progression, and preparing sales particulars and photography for new properties coming on to the market. As you can see, we’re never bored!
What key skills do you think are important for an estate agent to have?
You need more key skills than people possibly may think, and our top five would be good communication, patience, area and industry knowledge, and attention to detail.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of the job?
House buying and selling can be very stressful, so dealing with clients in this situation and their emotions can be quite challenging. But its something we’re very used to, and we simply take it in our stride whilst trying to be a calming influence.
Who makes the best cup of tea/coffee in the team?
Leigh is normally the only one in the office that has a hot drink, so it’s got to be Leigh!
Who in the team makes you laugh the most?
This was a tough one so we’re going to have to say both Leigh and Tabitha.
Funniest story of the last year?
Whilst we were carrying out a viewing at an empty property, a local cat took it upon itself to walk in and make itself at home. The cat gave us and the people viewing the property the run around for a good few minutes, but we did eventually get it to leave!
