Andrew Granger & Co Ltd sponsors Leicestershire Ride+Stride event

Fri 4 October 2019

Andrew Granger & Co Ltd has sponsored the upcoming Leicestershire Ride+Stride event by £500, for the sixth year in a row.

The popular national event, which takes place across the county on Saturday 14 September, raises crucial funds towards the repair and upkeep of the region’s historic churches.

Participants are encouraged to visit as many churches taking part in the event as possible during the open day and get sponsored for doing so. In addition, churches can also be sponsored for welcoming visitors throughout the special day.

How visitors choose to get from church to church is entirely their choice – previous years have seen cyclists, walkers, runners, joggers, horse-riders and motor scooter drivers.

The money raised is divided half and half between the churches nominated by participants and the Leicestershire Historic Churches Trust, which awards grants to historic churches for repairs and community facilities.

Rupert Harrison, Director and Head of Rural for Andrew Granger & Co Ltd, said: “We feel very strongly about supporting the communities in which our offices are.

“We like to sponsor Leicestershire Ride+Stride because it gives the opportunity to visit historic buildings across the county, at the same time as taking in beautiful countryside, getting some exercise and having fun with the family – all whilst raising vital financial support so that the regions churches can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.”

Janet Arthur, Chair of Leicestershire Historic Churches Trust, said: “We’re extremely grateful for Andrew Granger & Co’s help again.

“We put the money towards the cost of all the printed materials required for the event and posting the items to the hundreds of participating churches.

“Since it started in Leicestershire in 1990, Ride+Stride has raised over £1,060,000 – an amazing sum which has done a huge amount of good.

“We look forward to welcoming lots of participants this year to ensure the continued success of the event.”

Archdeacon of Leicester, the Ven Richard Worsfold, is among those relishing the prospect of the event as he plans to travel between some urban and rural churches.

“I am looking forward to cycling from Leicester to Melton Mowbray for Ride+Stride. It’s a great way to get some exercise and a very important fundraising opportunity,” said Richard.

“The money from this event helps the repairs of churches across the city and county and I really want to encourage support for that because it helps all churches, especially given the challenges so many face at this time. Please do consider taking part,” added Richard.

2019 marks a special year for Andrew Granger & Co and Leicestershire Ride+Stride, as they celebrate a 30th anniversary and the 30th Ride+Stride in Leicestershire respectively.

With 360 churches participating in the event across Leicestershire it’s the perfect opportunity for visitors to take in as many as they like during the open day.
