Historic Leicester charities announce merger

Tue 4 April 2023

Two of the oldest charities in Leicester completed their merger recently. Wyggestons Hospital (500 years old) and Trinity Hospital (700 years old), both of which are Almshouses, have come together to strengthen both organisations.

With a combined caring experience of over 1200 years, providing accommodation, support and care services for vulnerable older people, the new organisation will be known as ‘The Wyggeston and Trinity Almshouse Charity’.

During the merger Wyggestons was legally represented by Browne Jacobson and Trinity by Shakespeare Martineau. Andrew Robinson of Andrew Granger & Co, Land Agent to both charities was there to witness the event and was amongst the first to congratulate Sandra Powell as Chairman of the newly combined organisation.

Andrew says: “Bringing the charities together was a great idea and will enable the newly formed charity to go from strength to strength, continuing their amazing work for even more years to come.

“It was a huge privilege to witness this significant moment in the history of Leicester.”
