As a local property firm operating across Leicestershire for over 32 years, it’s important to Andrew Granger & Co. to support a number of local charities and organisations, and this year it includes The Martin Trust.
The Martin Trust prides itself on ‘Providing Young People with a Brighter Future’ through grants to young people and youth voluntary groups in the Leicestershire and Rutland area.
The Trust was founded in 1995 by friends of Sir Andrew Martin KCVO who, as Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire for twenty-four years, had actively supported the aspirations and needs of young people and their voluntary organisations.
Young people may apply to the Trust for modest grants usually between £100 and £250 - exceptionally £500, and the Trust also makes grants to voluntary youth organisations with which Sir Andrew Martin was closely involved. Such organisations may be awarded grants up to £1,000, although that figure may be exceeded where exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated.
David Knowles DL, Chair of The Martin Trust, explains: “The young people that the Trust helps range in age from 12 – 21 years and can qualify for a grant due to having an outstanding skill or talent, being disadvantaged, or up to 25 years in cases where there is a disability, learning difficulty, special educational need or mental health issue.
“The grants the Trust have previously given have ranged from anything to providing a computer for educational purposes to a young person who acts as the carer for her mother who has a life-limiting illness, to a voluntary youth group in repairing their leaking club room roof.
“It’s hard to know what they would have done without the help of The Martin Trust and we’re just grateful for the support we receive from companies such as Andrew Granger & Co, in order to be able to help others.”
